Deconstructing still life installation, June 2023
The installation "Deconstructing Still Life Canvas" tells the story of letting go and holding on, and explores the essence and shaping of still life. The work brings the tangible element back into space by using ceramics and curtains that I inherited from my grandmother, adding a domestic element to the whole.
In this work, I play with the interaction between physical objects and their shadows. Normally, a physical object always leaves a shadow behind, but what happens when one of these two elements is absent? What remains in the absence of the object, while a shadow is still present? This creates an intriguing illusion, suggesting that something is there while simultaneously appearing to be absent.
By exploring and emphasizing this contradiction, the work invites the viewer to contemplate the complexity of perception and presence. It challenges traditional ideas about still life and raises questions about what happens when the boundaries between object and shadow blur. Through this installation, I aim to create a meaningful experience that challenges the viewer to explore the perception of reality and illusion.
