Archive of the shadows in my studio, February-May 2023

In this work, I hung a canvas of 3.5m by 1.6m against the wall of my studio. Over a period of time, I used oil paints to record every shadow that fell on this canvas in my studio. This created an archive of shadows on the canvas. Then I divided the canvas horizontally into 5 parts and folded these parts into A3-sized booklets. This created a fragmented version of the original registration. I later installed these booklets as objects in space.

By transforming the canvas in this way, I ensure that the work can be easily archived. Each time the work is shown, a new composition of pages can be created, adding a dynamic element to the work. This gives each presentation of the work a unique composition and the archiving process itself becomes part of the artistic experience.
